Maserati VIN decoder
Maserati is an Italian maker of sports cars, grand tourers and SUVs, currently the MC20, the GranTurismo and GranCabrio, and the Grecale SUV. It is owned by Stellantis, the group formed in January 2021 when Fiat Chrysler Automobiles merged with PSA. Stellantis stopped reporting Maserati as a separate business segment in 2026 but has said it intends to keep the brand.

Maserati's home is Modena, where the MC20 and GranTurismo are built. The Grecale is built at Stellantis's plant in Cassino. Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority lists all three of Maserati's WMIs under Maserati S.p.A. in Modena.
Maserati has been back on sale in the United States since early 2002, and recall campaigns for U.S.-market cars are filed with NHTSA by Maserati North America, Inc.; the 2023 Grecale alone is covered by three, including 24V892000. Which WMI codes does Maserati use?
NHTSA's vPIC database lists three WMIs under Maserati S.p.A. ZAM is the passenger-car code and ZN6, added in April 2016, covers multipurpose passenger vehicles (MPVs), the U.S. class that includes SUVs. The third, ZC2, is listed under Maserati S.p.A. but with the make Chrysler, which means a ZC2 VIN belongs to a Chrysler-branded car built by Maserati rather than to a Maserati.

Do European-market Maserati VINs follow U.S. rules?
Not entirely. A Maserati built for the U.S. follows 49 CFR Part 565, with a check digit in position 9 and a model-year code in position 10. Maseratis built for Europe before July 2022 came under rules that mirrored ISO 3779, which leaves positions 4 to 9 to the manufacturer and requires neither a check digit nor a year code. The EU has required a check digit for new vehicle types since 6 July 2022, but not a year code. That is why an older European-market Maserati VIN may fail a U.S.-style check-digit test without being altered, and why our decoder may return only the manufacturer for such a car.

Not according to NHTSA's vPIC database. It lists ZC2 under Maserati S.p.A. as the builder but gives the make as Chrysler. Run a full decode to see the model details that vPIC holds for the VIN.
Will a European-market Maserati decode fully here?
Usually not. Our decoder uses NHTSA's vPIC data, which is most complete for vehicles built for North America. A European-market Maserati will be identified from its WMI, but model and engine fields may be empty.
