Dacia VIN decoder
Dacia's world manufacturer identifiers are UU1 and UV1, two Romanian codes that Germany's Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) lists under Automobile Dacia S.A. of Mioveni. Dacia has belonged to Renault Group since 1999 and builds affordable cars and SUVs: the Sandero, Logan, Jogger, Duster, Bigster and the electric Spring.
Enter all 17 characters. For vehicles built for other markets, expect the maker and region rather than full specifications.

The main plant is Mioveni in Romania, which builds the Logan, Jogger, Duster and Bigster. Renault Group's plant in Tangier, Morocco, builds the Sandero and Jogger, and French recall notices mention Dacias assembled at several other sites, which is why the plant cannot be read from the WMI alone: under the international VIN standard, the WMI reflects the country where the manufacturer is headquartered.
Dacia is not sold in the United States or Canada. NHTSA's vPIC database has no entry for its WMIs, and NHTSA's recall search lists no Dacia campaigns for any model year from 1966 to 2026. That has two consequences for this page. There are no NHTSA recall or complaint statistics to show, and our decoder, which relies on vPIC, cannot name the model of a Dacia; it can only read the region, country and check digit. The notes below explain what a Dacia VIN tells you, where to find it and where to check recalls.

Which WMI codes does Dacia use?
KBA's manufacturer list, dated 15 January 2026, gives two current codes for Automobile Dacia S.A. The same list also records UU1 under older Romanian entities, reflecting the plant's history before Renault's takeover. French recall notices confirm UU1 on the Duster.

Both codes fall in the UU to UX range allocated to Romania. NHTSA's vPIC database, the source behind most U.S. VIN decoders, has no entry for either. See the WMI code guide for how these prefixes are assigned.
Does a Dacia VIN have a check digit and a model year?
Until July 2022, EU rules mirrored ISO 3779, which does not require a check digit and makes a year code optional. Since 6 July 2022, new EU vehicle types must carry a check digit in position 9 under Regulation 2021/535, but a model-year code is still not required, whereas U.S. rules under 49 CFR Part 565 demand both. Real examples are scarce, because only one of the 19 Dacia recall notices on RappelConso, the French government recall site, quotes full VINs: a January 2026 notice for the Duster lists the first and last VIN of the affected range.
Those two VINs are instructive. Both pass the North American check-digit calculation, so a Dacia VIN can carry a valid check digit. But both have a 7 in position 10. In the model-year table a 7 stands for 2007 or 2037, and the Duster was only launched in 2010, so position 10 on these Dacias is evidently not a model-year code. Where is the VIN on a Dacia?
Dacia's online user manuals, like Renault's, show a manufacturer's plate that carries the vehicle identification number, and state that the presence and location of the information depend on the vehicle. How do you check Dacia recalls?
NHTSA's data, which powers our recall lookup, has nothing for Dacia because the brand has no U.S. line-up. Use these instead:
- France: RappelConso (rappel.conso.gouv.fr), the government recall site, which lists Dacia campaigns by model and production period.
- United Kingdom: the GOV.UK service Check if a vehicle, part or accessory has been recalled, which looks cars up by registration number or by make, model and year.
- Germany: the Kraftfahrt-Bundesamt recall database (Rückrufdatenbank), linked from kba.de.
- Anywhere: a Dacia or Renault dealer can check open campaigns against the full VIN.
Dacia shares its parent group with Renault, and some Dacia and Renault models are built in the same plants.
Can this site decode a Dacia VIN?
Only partly. Our decoder relies on NHTSA's vPIC database, which does not list Dacia's UU1 or UV1 codes. It can show the region and country from the first characters and run the check-digit calculation, but it cannot name the model or engine.
Is position 10 of a Dacia VIN the model year?
Not reliably. Neither ISO 3779 nor current EU rules require a year code, and the Duster VINs quoted in a January 2026 French recall notice have a 7 in position 10, which cannot be a model year for a model launched in 2010. Use the registration certificate for the year.
Where can I check recalls for my Dacia?
Use RappelConso in France, the GOV.UK recall checker in the UK, the KBA recall database in Germany, or a Dacia dealer, who can check the full VIN. NHTSA has no Dacia recall data because the brand is not sold in the U.S.
Does a Dacia VIN show accident or ownership history?
No. A VIN identifies the vehicle and how it was built. Ownership, accident and mileage records are held by registration authorities and history providers, and this site does not include them.
